Made famous by the Wikipedia – wikis are becoming much more than just a way to store information. Socialtext has brought the wiki mainstream with the addition of two new features. Increasingly organizations and business are having to adapt to the huge increase in information they must manage. Enterprise wikis are proving to be very effective at enabling teams and organizations coordinate their response to rapidly changing environments.

Because the wiki resembles the way the human mind works it can help us organize information intuitively. Wikis also represent one of the most powerful tools for enabling collaboration at all levels of human organization.

Anyone interested in how to enhance collaboration inside a team or business will have already tripped over the term ‘Wiki‘. Even those who have little or no interest in ‘collaboration’ will probably have heard of the Wikipedia ( hands up those who haven’t).

Social Text (check out their ‘what’s a wiki?’ link) has been kicking around for some time now and it’s ‘enterprise wiki’ concept offers a great many solutions to problems of knowledge management inside teams and organizations.

I just tripped over yet another service – Wetpaint – which also aims to take wiki mainstream. They have an amusing collection of parody commercials that not only inform the viewer about the practical uses of wiki, but also are bound to have you smiling (which is very good for your immune system folks – so Wetpaint could claim that learning about wikis might improve your health).
